PCC seeks applicants who possess maturity, solid clinical experience, desire to increase their theoretical and technical capacities, interest in primitive mental states, and passion for psychoanalytic thought. Prerequisite qualifications for PCC’s three certification programs are listed below:

Certificate of Fellowship in the International Psychoanalytical Association

To be admitted as a Candidate for Certification in Adult Psychoanalysis, the applicant must have:

  • A Clinical Doctoral degree (Ph.D., M.D., Psy.D., EDD, DSW); or a Clinical Masters degree
  • A valid California license
  • Professional Liability Insurance
  • Show an aptitude for psychoanalytic work

Certificate in Research Psychoanalysis

The Research Psychoanalysis track is for university-level academics working in a faculty or research position which would be enriched by psychoanalytic thought.

To be admitted as a Candidate for Certification in Research Psychoanalysis, the applicant must have:

  • A Ph.D., or be a post-Masters-level graduate student of unusual potential
  • A full-time faculty appointment at a University
  • Demonstrated achievement in their field
  • A serious interest in psychoanalysis with relevance for their field of academic research
  • Register with Allied Health Professions — a division of the California Medical Board — as a Research Psychoanalyst, or as a Research Psychoanalyst Student
  • Show an aptitude for psychoanalytic work.

Certificate in Infant, Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis

The Certificate in Infant, Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis program is designed to train Candidates in the practice of child psychoanalysis. Applicants may:

  • Begin Infant, Child and Adolescent Certification during their third year in the Core Program
  • Begin Infant, Child and Adolescent Certification after graduation from the Core Program
  • Be graduates of other IPA-approved training institutes, with possible remediation required
  • Have equivalent training of IPA-approved institutes to be evaluated for the program
  • Must show aptitude for child psychoanalytic work
