DESCRIPTION:The Value of Analysis and the Anatomy of Interpretation featuring Albert Mason\, MB\, BS\, PsyD in celebration of his work and his 90th birthday.\nProgram Description\nThis innovative conference will include two presentations\, the first on the value of analysis and the second on the anatomy of interpretation. In the first presentation\, Dr. Mason will elaborate on the value of psychoanalysis as a research tool to describe psychic structure and dynamics as well as a therapeutic process for the modification of mental and psychodynamic illness. In the second presentation\, he will demonstrate the technique and process of analysis by constructing\, with input from audience participants\, a diagram that addresses what the analyst thinks/does\, what the patient thinks/does\, and the connective dynamics between them\, both conscious and unconscious. Particular attention will be paid to the transformative aspects of the therapeutic relationship which result in deep and lasting personality change. There will be ample time for audience discussion. \nAudience\nMD’s\, Psychologists\, LCSW’s\, MFT’s\, Registered Nurses\, and other learners interested in developing psychoanalytic understanding.  \nCourse Objectives\nAt the end of this activity\, participants will be able to:  \n\nDifferentiate psychoanalysis from other forms of psychotherapeutic treatment;\nIdentify the relationship between the conscious content of a therapy session and the unconscious dynamics expressed;\nWork through transference distortions in order to produce psychic change and improved outcomes with their patients.\n\nProgram Faculty\nAlbert A. Mason\, MB\, BS\, PsyD is a training and supervising analyst at the Psychoanalytic Center of California and the New Center for Psychoanalysis. He is a founding member and twice President of the Psychoanalytic Center of California\, as well as a past member of the House of Delegates of the International Psychoanalytic Society. He is highly regarded for his clinical and supervisory skills\, his clear and engaging thinking as a teacher and writer\, as well as his sense of humor.
