Unconscious phantasy is considered to be one of the most important theoretical and clinical concepts in psychoanalysis. In this year’s Gooch Prize paper, Dr. Eliane Hary elucidates an unconscious phantasy of a patient as it was unraveled in her analysis through the patient’s dreams, behavior, and the transference-countertransference configurations. High-functioning in the external world and with little hint as to what was to come, the patient began to fall apart a short while after analysis began, but only in respect to her relationship with the analyst. It appeared as if the patient was waiting for an opportunity to work through a drama that had occurred many years ago and for which she did not have words; it therefore had to be acted out in the transference.
PCC candidates and members are invited to join us on Tuesday, September 27, at 7:30 pm at the PCC Office Classroom to hear and discuss Dr. Eliane Hary’s paper, A Murder Was Committed: An Exploration of an Unconscious Fantasy.
