press_release_mhas_hary1PCC member, Dr. Eliane Hary, along with California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones, was honored on Sunday, October 23, 2016 by Mental Health Advocacy Services at its Annual Celebration held at The New Center for Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles.

“We are particularly pleased to honor two people who share our passion for equal opportunity for all people with mental health disabilities. Commissioner Jones and Dr. Hary have distinguished themselves through careers dedicated to helping others get the support they need to participate equally in our society regardless of income or disability,” said Jim Preis, Executive Director of Mental Health Advocacy Services.

For over 25 years, Dr. Eliane Hary has worked to ensure access to long-term psychotherapy, including psychoanalysis, for uninsured individuals in the San Fernando Valley. As Director of Counseling at Valley Community Counseling Clinic, Dr. Hary has significantly improved access to quality mental health services while providing a unique training opportunity for clinical interns to practice psychodynamic psychotherapy with a low-income, culturally diverse population.

Founded in 1977, Mental Health Advocacy Services, Inc. (MHAS) is a nonprofit legal services organization in Los Angeles whose mission is to protect and advance the legal rights of children and adults with mental disabilities. MHAS provides free legal services to approximately 3,000 low-income individuals annually, with an emphasis on obtaining government benefits and services, protecting rights and fighting discrimination. MHAS also serves as a resource to the community by providing training and technical assistance to attorneys, mental health professionals, consumer and family member groups, and other advocates.
