The 26th Annual Melanie Klein Lectureship
featuring Dr. Anne Alvarez of the Tavistock Clinic, London
May 30, 2015
The Olympic Collection, Los Angeles

The Psychoanalytic Center of California presents this important conference exploring contemporary psychoanalytic theory and technique that draws from the work of Melanie Klein.

In these conference videos, Dr. Alvarez extends the work of Melanie Klein in her application of theory and technique to work with disturbed patients, particularly children. In Part 1, Dr. Alvarez explores the “schizoid” aspect of the “paranoid-schizoid” position, showing the unique dynamics of those patients for whom deficit–that is, the absence of strong feelings of love and hate–challenges the therapeutic work. In Part 2, Dr. Alvarez explores the differences in technique among three levels of pathology in her paper, “Levels of Psychoanalytic Therapy with Disturbed Children: The Work of Calibration.”
